Obituary for Salvatore Peloro

If You were assigned the job of writing a classic American success novel, then remembering the life of Salvatore Peloro would be hearty material to draw from. Sal was born on April 1, 1929 in Cassano, a small town outside of Naples, Italy. He was the second of three children, survived by his younger sister, Teresa Peloro Maiorano living in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He grew up modestly during a world wide economic depression within a war torn country. Despite these harsh beginnings, he met and married the love of his life in his surviving bride, Maria D'Agnese, a marriage lasting over 61 years. Sal left his home to secure a future for his family and in search of a dream within the promising, shining young country across the Atlantic in America. Although he brought with him a rich Italian culture, he embodied the very essence of traditional American values including hard work, leadership, independence, and faithfulness to God, his wife, his family and new country. His pioneer spirit, innate street smarts, practicality, resourcefulness, and intelligence led him to become a self taught plumber, often times referring to himself as a "doctor" of pipes. He tirelessly put in very long hours frequently working multiple jobs and at all hours of the day and night.
On a personal side and to those of you who had the honor of knowing Sal, he was never at a loss of words or an opinion for that matter. This quality should not be mistaken for arrogance, rather forward thinking, endless determination and a near contempt of past success. Sal was always striving for better in himself, his profession, his family, his home and especially cooking, the latter of which in his opinion, no domestic or commercial establishment could compare to. This zeal for excellence in life, intrinsic American values, spirit and ambition were instilled by this patriarch in his surviving children: Dr. Bart Peloro, an internist in Brooklyn and Staten Island, his wife Vivian and children Salvatore, Marissa, Victoria, Francesca and Anthony; Mr. John Peloro, a successful Floridian businessman, his wife Rosaria and children Maria and John; and Dr. Tina Peloro, a dermatological surgeon in central NJ, her husband Dr. Robert Pannullo and children, James, Michael and Julia. Sal vows to watch his 10 endearing grandchildren from the balcony of heaven get married and like him become great American success stories. For those of you who mourn the passing of this great Italian-American lion, Sal would encourage you to respect each other, keep looking forward and always remember "better days are coming."

Respectfully,
Bobby Pannullo
